| Group Name | Description |
| Junior 2/3 | Typically 6 to 12 years old with ability to swim two strokes. Focus on the development of stroke fundamentals, starts and turns. Swimmer work on gaining skills in all four competitive strokes. Swimmers in this group often participate in activities outside of swimming and are asked to set goals of attending the selected number of practices each week allowing for measurable improvements in their abilities. Swimmers are encouraged to attend a couple meets during the season. |
| Junior 5 | Typically 6 to 12 years old, demonstrating a growing commitment to swimming, investing more time in practicing and are typically more advanced than Junior 2/3 swimmers. Swimmers in this group begin to learn basic interval training and aerobic swimming concepts. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all 5 practices per week if school work permits. Attendance at several meets during the season is encouraged. |
| Senior | Experienced age-group swimmers typically 11 to 13 years old. They are expected to make a strong commitment with respect to attendance and training effort. These swimmers are working to maximize their age group abilities. Interval training and aerobic swimming concepts are now integrated into most practices. Swimmers in this group generally attend local, state, and regional meets on a regular basis. |
| Elite | Typically age 13 to 18. Swimmers in this group are striving to compete at the state and national level and intend to continue to swim at the collegiate level. Swimmers in this group are competing at the highest levels and demonstrate the strongest commitment to the sport. Training at 1.5 hours per day in the water plus additional dryland workouts, focus is on mental and physical preparation for competition. Swimmers are expected to set goals and use techniques and endurance gained at practice to achieve them. Older swimmers in this group are usually participating with a High School team at morning practices. |
