Swim Practices Dismissal Policy

This policy explains inappropriate behaviors and possible consequences for inappropriate behaviors. Some Examples of inappropriate behaviors:

  • disrupting practices
  • refusing to workout
  • inappropriate language
  • harassment
  • arguing with swimmers
  • fighting
  • refusal to comply with any/all redirection
  • major physical injury to another swimmer
  • drug or alcohol possession

1. The “3 Strikes and You’re Out” System

After a swimmer has been warned three times concerning inappropriate behavior, that swimmer will be asked to leave the practice. After multiple such warnings, a swimmer may be expelled from the Lone Star Aquatics Team.

2. Criteria for “3 Strikes and You’re Out”

Strike 1: The swimmer will be asked to stop the inappropriate behavior.
Strike 2: The swimmer is asked again and reminded that the situation is getting very serious.
Strike 3: After not complying with warnings 1 and 2, the swimmer is dismissed from practice.

The situation outlined above would always be followed by:

  1. A meeting of involved swimmer and coach in the office at the end of practice
  2. A dismissal slip, including swimmer and coach’s name, date, reason for dismissal, swimmer’s explanation, and whether it was the 1, 2, or 3 time.
  3. A copy of slip to be put in family file, and one copy to be put in Head Coach’s file.
  4. A phone call to the parents each time.

3. Reporting of dismissals

The following actions will follow each incident of dismissal from practice:

1st dismissal – A phone call to the swimmer’s parent as a notification of dismissal, request if desired by coach or swimmer.
2nd dismissal – A phone call with parent(s) to schedule mandatory meeting with the coach.
3rd dismissal – A phone call with parent(s) to schedule mandatory meeting during which expulsion from team is discussed as a final remedy to the recurring problem. At this stage, the swimmer and parent(s) must provide sufficient cause to allow the swimmer on the team.
