Dear Team,

Sign-up is now open for the June 8-9th AAAA 12 and under B+ swim meet and the AAAA 13 and up Gold/Silver/Bronze meet June 9-10th. In order to swim at the B+ meet, a swimmer must have achieved a B cut or faster in that event. The meet will be run with 1 session on Friday and 2 sessions on Saturday. The swim meet will take place at Palo Alto College, great pool, located at 1400 West Villaret Blvd, San Antonio Tx 78224.

The second Gold/Silver/Bronze meet is open for swimmers 13 and up, that have achieved the following: 3 B cuts, 2 BB cuts, or 1 A cut. Two sessions will run on Saturday and one session on Sunday. This swim meet will take place at the George Block Swim Center at 7001 Culebra Road San Antonio, TX 78238. Swimmers may enter a maximum of 5 events per day. Each event is $6.50 plus a one-time $6.00 coaching fee.

Based on the high demand of teams trying to enter swim meets, I would like to send in our entries by Sunday night. Please send me your entries by 9pm this Sunday May 12th. If you have any questions, please email me or call (512) 560-8735 when I am not at work and I wll assist you as best as possible.

Dear Team,

I regret to inform you that we were unable to enter the Valero Invitational. The meet has filled and several teams, including ourselves, were unable to get in. Since this is the case, we are adding 2 new swim meets to allow our swimmers another opportunity to swim.

We are adding the Summer C meet at Palo Alto on June 16th in San Antonio for all swimmers who have not received a B cut and the AAAA Gold/Silver/Bronze at Palo Alto for all swimmers looking for a last chance to get their A cut. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused many of you. Anytime we enter a meet, there is the chance we may not get in. I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure that we don't get left out.

The block of rooms at the Embassy Suites has been canceled, but you are responsible for canceling your own reservation.

Dear Lone Star Families,

A block of rooms at a special rate has been set aside at the Embassy Suites for the Corpus Christi Valero meet (June 15-17). A rate of $119 for a queen (2) suite or king (1) suite will be available through May 31 or until all rooms are booked. The hotel is located at 4337 S. Padre Island Drive in Corpus Christi. You may book your room through here or call the hotel at 361-853-7899 and request the VIS group code.

Arrangements have been made for us to have early breakfast available at the hotel on 6/16 and 6/17 to accommodate the meet schedule. Also, the manager's reception will be available each evening.

Dear Lone Star families,

We have lost a member of our Lone Star Family. It is with great sadness that we want you to know that longtime Lone Star Aquatic Club sponsor Mr. Jim Buchanan passed away yesterday from complications of pneumonia and Pick's Disease. As you all know from our annual LSAC Jim Swim Fundraisers, Jim was the man we honored at this event. We helped to raise money in Jim's name in order to help find a cure for Pick's Disease. Many of our swimmers remember Jim coming to practices regularly with Coach Adam. We owe Jim and Jayne Buchanan so much gratitude for their significant contributions to our team over the past decade. Please give Coach Adam your condolences since Jim was a big part of Adam's life. We especially want to send our thoughts and prayers to Jim's loving wife and team sponsor Mrs. Jayne Buchanan. We will send flowers on behalf of the team but if your family feels called to do more please let Coach Adam or Malena Davidson know and we can help you get in contact with Mrs. Buchanan.

Dear Team,

Due to the lack of space on the pool deck and mold issues we are no longer going to store fins for the team. As coaches we use the fins for technique and speed work in training. It is important that your swimmer has their own set of fins.

Our suggestion is that you purchase the following for your swimmer:
1. Fins
2. Kick board
3. Mesh bag to hold equipment
4. Label your equipment and mesh bag

Please bring your equipment bag to workout every time you come and then take it home with you.

Dear Team,

Awesome job to everyone who swam at UT this last weekend. As a team, you guys tore it up through the two day battle. The coaches were expecting to see a fair amount of time improvements, but not near the amount you guys dropped. Although the meet was an overall enormous success, keep in mind, you have now raised the bar. Be proud of your accomplishments, but stay hungry for more. We have more meets before the championship meets roll around. Keep pushing yourselves as much as possible in practice and keep thinking outside the box for ways to swim faster.

The May 18-20th End of School Splash at UT is now open. Meet infomation is provided on our web site. In order to swim anything 200 meters or above, you must have a B cut. All other events are open to anyone regardless if you have swam the event or not. Swimmers are allowed to enter 3 events per day. Each event cost $8.25 and each swimmer is required to pay the $6.00 coaching fee. Sign-up by emailing me @ LSACCOACH@hotmail.com by Monday April 30th @ 11:59pm, so that I can assure you are entered.

On a side note, Gabe Wheeler will be taking a visit to Seattle University next week as he makes his final decision to swim there. If you see Gabe, please wish him the best as he has been an outstanding leader and has done a lot for our younger swimmers this last year. Thank you all and good luck to all our swimmers taking the STAAR test.

Wow!!! What a great first week back from spring break! The coaches are extremely impressed on how well you guys came back this last week and got after it. We are extra impressed with how well the 4 and 5pm groups responded to the changes in our coaching staff. For those of you who do not already know, we have brought on 2 new additions to our coaching staff. Coach Claudia and Coach Shannon will join the Lone Star team and will train the developmental group. Both coaches come to us with an extensive background in swimming and currently swim themselves. If you have not met Shannon or Claudia, please come by before 4pm practice and get to know them. You can also check out the Coaches section on our website later this week and read more about these two awesome new coaches.

We are also excited to announce we are going to be able offer more for our 5pm Senior group, with change comes opportunity. Beginning April 2nd, I will head up a strength training program for all 5pm Senior swimmers MWF @ 4:15pm. We will use med balls, jumping blocks, and all sorts of other equipment to better prepare us for competition.

Lastly, we are excited to announce that former Lone Star swimmer Dax Hill has led the University of Texas to it's 100,101, and 102nd National title. Please be sure to congratulate him as Dax and his family have done a tremendous amount of work supporting us over the years.

Don't forget to sign up for the Garrett Weber-Gale Swim Clinic on April 7 from 6-9. Take it easy y'all and see you at the pool!

Congratulations to Dax who won the 200-yard freestyle Friday night at the NCAA swimming and diving championships. Dax was clocked in 1 minute, 32.51 seconds, ahead of runner-up Dimitri Colupaev of Southern California (1:32.91).

Dear Parents, We were just notified by the UIW Campus Police, that there will be a fun run 5 K on UIW campus Saturday morning only. It had to be relocated from a previously scheduled venue.

They will set up at 6:00AM, and the event will be complete around 11:00am. You will be allowed to park on the MAIN CAMPUS which is EAST side of the River bridge basically (the NON ATHLETICS SIDE OF CAMPUS). You will be allowed to park in the Agnese Sosa Parking Garage, or Parking spaces on the Southeast side of the main campus. It is maybe a 200 yard walk to the Natatorium. There is a chance that you will be allowed to drop kids and materials off at the Gym then go park as long as the run hasn't started yet.

We are expecting a Great Meet this weekend. Thank you for understanding.

We are adding two new swim meets to our schedule. You may now enter the AAAA BB+ swim meet in San Antonio and the Jan Maresca Invitational at Southwestern University in Georgetown. Entries will close for both swim meets @ 11:59pm this Thursday night.

We encourage all swimmers 14 and under to participate in the Jan Maresca Invitational. This is a great opportunity for all new swimmers on our team to compete in. Please review the meet info below and email me with your entries.

In order to compete in the San Antonio meet, you must have received a BB qualifying time in the event you want to swim. If you have any questions, please contact myself or any of the coaches and we will assist you.

Dear Lone Star Families,

The heater at the YMCA pool is not working and the pool temperature is too cold for swimming (75 degrees and dropping). Therefore, we are cancelling all practices for today. The heater is scheduled to be replaced on Friday but that may not provide enough time to get the water temperature high enough for practice on Friday. Please stay tuned and we will send out a notice about practice tomorrow depending on the pool temperature.

Happy Holidays!

We had several outstanding swims this last weekend. Our swimmers swam almost flawlessly during the three days of competition. We consider ourselves privileged to coach such a fine group of individuals. It's rare to see a group of swimmers step up and perform the way you guys did. Great job everyone!

We want to also thank the parents. We appreciate the support you showed during competition. Without it, our swimmers would not have performed as well as they did.

All ribbons will be placed in the family folders tonight. Please be sure to pick them up.

We have three meets scheduled for January. The first two, The B Championship and the TXLA New Years Classic, require that a swimmer has achieved their National B time standard. The BB Championship requires a National BB cut in order for an athlete to participate. Click here to view the National Age Group Motivational Times.

BIG NEWS: Aaron Peirsol, a second Olympian, is coming to our 100 Jim Swim Event on Saturday, December 10th 7 - 10 pm.

Aaron Peirsol is a three-time Olympian and seven-time Olympic medalist (five gold, two silver). As part of the American team, he holds the world record in the 4×100-meter medley relay (long course). Individually, he currently holds the world record in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke (long course). Peirsol's success earned him the American Swimmer of the Year Award once. He has won a total of thirty-six medals in major international competition, twenty-nine gold, six silver, and one bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, Pan American, and the Pan Pacific Championships.

In his Olympic debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics, at the age of seventeen, Peirsol won a silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke. Four years later, at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Peirsol won gold in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke (sweeping the backstroke events) and the 4×100-meter medley relay. In his third Olympics (2008 Summer Olympics), Peirsol won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and the 4×100-meter medley relay. Peirsol graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006 majoring in government. He was the 2003 NCAA Swimmer of the Year. After finishing his second year of collegiate eligibility, Peirsol signed with Nike, Inc., thus turning professional.

Lone Star Swimmers and families,

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Olympian Garrett Weber-Gale who won two gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and competed for the University of Texas from 2003-07 will be our special guest at our 100 Mile Jim Swim event. In 2006, Garrett was the NCAA Division I Champion in the 100 freestyle. He won the 100 and 50 meter freestyles at the 2008 US Olympic Trials in 47.92 and 21.47 seconds respectively. His time of 21.47 in the 50 was an American record. By clocking a time of 47.78 in the prelims of the 100 freestyle at the Trials, he became the first American to break 48 seconds in that event.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

December 9th is quickly approaching and I need at least 20 more elves to help me run the cupcake walk (I only need you for 15 minutes, that way you can enjoy the event with your family).

I also need 400 cupcakes. I know we have some Santa's that can bake.

Just bring your cupcakes to the YMCA on Thursday, December 8 during practice hours or Friday, December 9th until 5 pm, in a stackable container*, and be sure and contact me if you need some other time.

Twas a few weeks before Christmas and what do I see, hundreds of families surrounding me.

From all around Round Rock, near and far, they've come to win cupcakes, it's not so bazaar.

They have no idea from where they were baked, but they all tasted yummy for goodness sake.

LSAC is the sponsor for the cupcake walk, it's a great time to help and drink hot chocolate and talk. So how can you help? I'm so glad you asked. I'll need about 400 cupcakes to last, From 6:30pm, December 9, in downtown Round Rock, it will be a blast!

If each of the LSAC family brings one or two dozen, there will be plenty for everyone, even their cousins! I will need lots of helpers to run this event. So email me, or call, we'll be warm in the tent! Thank you for reading my silly rhyme.

I will need people to volunteer to run the booth in 15 min increments so let me know which time works for you. We will begin at 6:30 pm, December 9th and close at 8:45pm. The event is fun for the whole family. I'll be taking cupcake donations Thursday, December 8th at the pool from 4 - 7pm and again on Friday, December 9 until 5pm. All cupcakes need to be delivered in stackable boxes for transport to the event.

Texas Gold Best Times Turkey Meet has been added to our Meet Schedule. This is a one day meet to be held at Southwestern University in Georgetown on Sunday, November 20th. This meet is for 14 and Under kids only, MEDALS will be awarded to all swimmers achieving a best time in an event. Entries for this meet are due by Friday, November 4th @12pm. Dear Team,

It's that time again!!! The first swim meet of the Short Course 2011-12 season is right around the corner. San Antonio Streamline Aquatics is hosting the Sombrero Kick off at the University of the Incarnate Word on October 15-16th. This swim meet is open to all swimmers and all swimmers are encouraged to attend.

If you are new to the team, please understand that it is important for your swimmer to swim at meets. Swim meets provide our athletes with the opportunity to put what they learned in practice to work and see the benefits of their training. All of our swimmers work very hard and the coaches are extremely proud of each and every one of them.

In order to sign up, all you need to do is email me the events you want your swimmer to swim. The events are listed in here. Each swimmer may enter up to 5 events a day and you can pick the days you want to come. You are NOT required to swim both days.

The cost for each event is $7.25 plus a one time $6.00 coaching fee. So, one event would be $13.25, two events would be $20.50, and so on. Please place a check covering your meet fees made out to Lone Star Aquatics in the treasurer's box at the pool.

The deadline for entries is next Friday, September 23rd. I will be available for questions everyday at the pool.

Again, we coaches cannot express enough the importance of attending swim meets. They are fun and an extremely important learning tool that is essential to your child's growth as a swimmer. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Dear Lone Star Swimming Families,

It's time to start planning for the Short Course season, which begins Monday, August 29th. The current Long Course season will end Friday, August 12th.

All swimmers will need to register again for the new season. We are offering the option FOR RETURNING SWIMMERS ONLY to mail in their registration packets during July instead of attending an in-person registration. Space in each group is limited, and spots will go to returning swimmers on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you need help determining which group to join, you can email Coach Adam at LSACCOACH@hotmail.com.

To Mail In your Registration Packet (returning swimmers only):

1. Go to http://www.lonestaraquatics.com/forms.php and Print the "2011-12 Fall Season Registration Packet."
2. Complete all pages of the packet.
3. Calculate the amount due. The amount due per swimmer is the first month's coaching fee + the USA Swimming fee ($68) + the Team Registration fee ($100). The USA Swimming registration will be extended through the end of 2012. If there are any amounts due, you will be billed and are expected to pay the balance due before swimming resumes on August 29th.
4. Mail the completed packet and your check made payable to "Lone Star Aquatic Club" to:

5. The packet must be received before August 1st to be given priority placement. Packets will be processed in the order in which they are received. Incomplete packets will not be processed.
6. You will receive an email confirming the acceptance of your registration.

Dear Lone Star Families:

As many of you know, our big travel meet to Corpus Christi is fast approaching. We have a lot of swimmers and families attending. We hope everyone has a great time and swims fast.

Because of the large number of swimmers attending this meet we will need all of our coaches to also attend. Thus, we will be cancelling practice on Friday, June 17th and Monday, June 20th to allow our coaches to attend this important meet and travel to and from Corpus Christi.

Practice will return to its normal schedule on Tuesday, June 21st. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Entries are now open for this year's Texas Open at the University of Texas. This is a highly competitive meet that attracts swimmers nationwide. In order to swim, your swimmer must have reached his or her BB cut in the event they want to swim. The meet info is available here.
